About Gothic Lockpicker

A free, no-install tool for the Gothic 1 Remake lockpicking puzzle — and the people who made it.

Gothic Lockpicker is a free web tool that solves the sliding plate-and-pin chest locks introduced in the Gothic 1 Remake. You enter the current state of a lock and the connections between its plates, and the solver returns the shortest sequence of moves that aligns every pin to the centre slot so the chest opens. Everything runs in your browser — there is nothing to download, install, or sign up for.

Why we built it

The remake completely redesigned lockpicking, swapping the original game's left/right combination locks for a connected-plate logic puzzle. It is a genuinely clever mechanic, but the dependency between plates makes the harder chests frustrating to solve by trial and error, especially mid-fight or when you are short on time. We built Gothic Lockpicker so that anyone who wants the answer can get it in seconds, and anyone who wants to understand the mechanic can read our full lockpicking guide and learn to solve it by hand.

What you can do here

  • The solver — enter any lock and get the shortest step-by-step solution, computed with a breadth-first search over every reachable lock state.
  • The community chest map — find a specific chest on the world map and grab a solution other players have verified and voted up, with no manual entry needed.
  • The guide — a complete explanation of how the lock mechanic works and how to read connections in-game.
